Types of bus service

Local

Local buses have frequent stops along the route. The stops for local buses are generally spaced 2 to 3 blocks apart. For most routes, not every local bus stop is listed on bus schedules. The bus stops that are listed on schedules with departure times are called timepoints.

Limited stop

Express

Often used for more limited, limited service. Express service will typically focus on service between major destinations and population centers in order to make as few stops as needed to et from point A to point B.

Community

Typically used to provide connecting service within residential neighborhoods and nearby transit hubs or neighborhood centers (often the neighborhood and small town shopping districts) where connections to other transit lines can be made.

Muni

Inbound

For "radial lines" which go to and from downtown, inbound means towards downtown.

Outbound

For "radial lines" which go to and from downtown, outbound means away downtown.
